This week has been a super anxious week for me and one thing that helps when I am anxious is a good workout. Below I have listed a number of workouts which have helped me in the past.
Yoga is usually the exercise that most people choose when it comes to reducing stress levels. Some people think that they need to be flexible to do yoga. This is something that improves gradually, I suggest trying a beginner yoga class which you can either pay and join a class or you could also do like me and simply follow a youtube instructor for free. Yoga has proven to reduce anger, anxiety and depressive symptoms so I highly suggest yoga if you feel that you would like a more relaxing type of workout.
A simple run could really help a person with anxiety. This is something that I always found helpful whenever I feel anxious. Some days I feel like I am going to go insane due to a really tough day, so I resort to a run. Usually these runs consist of me running and not jogging. This is so that I feel all of that anxiety come straight out of me. Running has proven to release chemicals which naturally make you feel good afterwards.
One of my favourite things to do is hiking. My boyfriend and I try to go on a hike every Sunday to release a lot of stress that accumulated during the week. I suggest hiking in environmental places, since these areas reduce a lot more stress than taking a walk in an urban area.
I love dancing ! You do not need to be a professional to dance, you can simply bust a few moves in your room to your favourite music. You will be surprised at how much you will feel better after you do so. On the other hand, if you are up for something new, you could always join a dance class and focus on your personal expression through dance.
Doing gym is also another way to reduce anxiety. Some people prefer signing up and going to a gym, while others prefer doing gym at home. I am one of those people who does gym at home. I created my own workout and I would share it but I believe a workout needs to be created specifically for that person. I would suggest downloading ‘Nike Training‘. This app is free and it creates a workout specifically for you and your needs.
I hope you found this blogpost useful, please feel free to comment and provide any suggestions for upcoming blogposts!
Bonus: I also find walking my dogs one of the best ways to reduce stress; however, this all depends if you have dogs and if you like dogs. If you do not have dogs, I would suggest walking dogs from shelters because they are the most grateful and loving animals that you will ever meet.
